METABOLIC ENGINEERING FOR THE ENHANCEMENT OF LEAF PRODUCTIVITY: OPTIMISATION OF CARBON METABOLISM

Lead Research Organisation: University of Oxford
Department Name: Interdisciplinary Bioscience DTP

Abstract

Food availability represents one of the main constraints for ensuring global food security in the next few decades. With plant-based products comprising the vast
majority of the world's food energy intake, the increase of crop productivity is a key strategy for the alleviation of global food insecurity. This bioengineering
project aims to optimise the efficiency of the carbon metabolism-related processes underpinning leaf productivity by genetic modification.

BBSRC REMIT AREAS: agriculture and food security, sustainably enhancing agricultural production.
