The Evolution of Galaxy Clusters and their Galaxies

Abstract

To analyse 15 Chandra observations of distant galaxy clusters, principally to determine the extent of AGN contamination in these clusters. This work will vet the most distant cluster candidates and will detect any AGN contributing >25% of the total XXL flux. I will also decontaminate secure clusters, which are currently believed to contain some AGN and be partially contaminated by AGN emission. From this we will be able to build up a sample of z>1 clusters with known AGN contamination which will be very important for future studies. Finally, we will improve our understanding of the selection function of distant clusters.
