Abstract
Permanent Magnet machines for electric power steering. Electrification in automotive vehicles becomes more and more popular. Electric power steering needs high quality permanent magnet motors. This project will investigate alternate permanent magnet machines and compare their electromagnetic and mechanical performance with particular reference to the torque density, torque ripple, design optimisation and manufacturing tolerance etc. Finite element methods will be employed together with prototyping and experimental validation.
