Critical phenomena and emergent dynamics in frustrated systems

Lead Research Organisation: University of Nottingham
Department Name: Sch of Physics & Astronomy

Abstract

Geometrically frustrated magnets are materials in which the interactions between magnetic moments are in competition and so cannot be simultaneously satisfied. Such systems are hindered from forming magnetic order and, at low temperatures, can instead form highly correlated states called "spin liquids". This project will study critical phenomena at unconventional phase transitions in frustrated magnets and related systems, such as dimer models, as well as the emergence of strongly correlated dynamics far from equilibrium.
