Quantum Fields Out Of Equilibrium

Lead Research Organisation: University of Nottingham
Department Name: Sch of Physics & Astronomy

Abstract

The real-time dynamics of quantum fields that are not in equilibrium has consequences for many areas of physics, such as the origin of the matter-antimatter asymmetry in the early Universe. One of the conditions for such baryogenesis is precisely that the fields are not in thermal equilibrium. This makes out-of-equilibrium studies important to understand, and this project will examine how to model the quantum physics of such scenarios, employing a combination of analytic and large-scale supercomputer simulations.
