Green Concrete: A Novel Sustainable End-Use of Ceramic and Stone Wastes

Lead Research Organisation: University of Edinburgh
Department Name: Sch of Engineering

Abstract

In this proposed project, the feasibility of incorporating ceramic and stone wastes into concrete will be investigated. Ceramic and stone wastes (specifically quarry fines) currently have limited recyclability, but possess pozzolanic properties (react in concrete to produce binder). The extent to which this reaction can be utilised in the production of green concrete will be quantified, and an optimum mix-design will ultimately be proposed.
