Individualised Lifelong Learning

Abstract

The research I would hope to conduct would be exploring learning across the lifetime through a combination of lab research and mobile application
studies with the aim of finding out how a large number of variables affect the way in which people learn. I am particularly interested in examining the
differing learning capabilities and methods employed by adults and adolescents, and how they manifest themselves in the virtual world created by new
technological advancements. This could perhaps lead to the development of publicly available device-based tools which aid in learning and also
provide great research tools to further our understanding in this area. I am eager to examine many different areas of learning behaviour; perhaps with a
focus on perceptual learning and language learning, though a more specific focus could be determined based off initial findings. I also hope to look at
neuroplasticity in lab-based studies, with an aim of furthering understanding as to why and how different groups of people exhibit different neural
substrates for the same task, which could aid in understanding or theorising about the results gathered from the large-scale mobile based studies.
