The efficacy of nostalgia in reducing objective measures of spatial anxiety

Abstract
The global population is ageing, and the demands for supportive health care will rapidly increase over the coming decades. Ageing is strongly associated with cognitive decline and environmental challenges may cause further confusion, disorientation and distress. Research has demonstrated how individuals with Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) respond positively to early interventions. The aim of my research is to develop early interventions to reduce anxiety-related cognitive deficits in virtual spatial navigation tasks.

| Results and Impact | Alzheimer's Research UK Network hosted a public engagement event. I demonstrated a hands-on activity and discussed my research topic with members of the general public. The activity involved a computer task which forms part of my research methodology. |

| Results and Impact | Student-led Research Methods Festival for 62 postgraduate researchers with media coverage via Twitter. The event allowed postgraduate researchers to showcase and celebrate the wide range of research methods used in their research. The day involved keynote speakers, workshops, an exhibition room with posters, photos, zines and interactive displays, and space for research demonstrations. I was a member of the committee organising this high profile event. Before the event, my role involved communications with the venue events manager, including venue visits and food arrangements. On the day of the event, I was part of the team that organised the set-up, as well as food preparations and registrations/check in for attendees. The South Coast Doctoral Training Partnership funded and supported this first time event, and expressed interest in running the event in the future. |
