Reliable and Secure Quantum Communications

Abstract

In the near future quantum computers will achieve the scale necessary for quantum supremacy whereby the device is no longer classically simulatable. However, low-quality qubits and quantum gate operations are very sensitive and the computation output is rendered useless when the components suffer unwanted interaction with their environment. Quantum Error correction codes (QECCs) exploit an increase in device scale to mitigate the effects of noise during information processing. This project will seek QECCs optimal to computational channel noise models appropriate to low-quality components. The experimental implications of these schemes will be investigated using both classical simulation and cloud-based device platforms. QECCs play a key role for enabling reliable and secure Quantum communications.
