Description We developed a model to better explain monopolies. We showed how the concept of a monopoly equilibrium works in the context of a general economy, extending the usual understanding of this market structure, which is based on a so-called "partial equilibrium", i.e. considering a market in isolation with respect to the whole economy. Our contribution is to give a tool to understand monopolies when considering a "general equilibrium" perspective, i.e. when a whole economy is reproduced within the model.
Exploitation Route Regulatory authority may better understand how and when to intervene to prevent consumers to be harmed by a monopoly that is abusing its position of power.
