DEVELOPING GLOBAL IONOSPHERIC DATA ASSIMILATION MODELS

Lead Research Organisation: University of Birmingham
Department Name: Electronic, Electrical and Computer Eng

Abstract

To contribute to the development of AENeAS which will model large-scale ionospheric structures. To explore whether AENeAS can be used to predict radio scintillation due to small-scale ionospheric structures which impacts some radio systems involving signals passing through the ionosphere, e.g. some satellite communications. Specifically exploring whether ionosonde data, GPS radio occultation measurements and existing meteorological model inputs can be used to improve radio scintillation forecasting accuracy.
