Simulating galaxies at the epoch of reionisation

Lead Research Organisation: University of Sussex
Department Name: Sch of Mathematical & Physical Sciences

Abstract

Hydrodynamical simulations of galaxy formation are now beginning to resolve the formation and evolution of galaxies, and in particular their star-forming disks, within the correct cosmological context. The student will develop, undertake and analyse such simulations as part of big international collaborations such as BlueTides and Virgo. The results are crucial for interpreting observations from the next generation of cosmological surveys. This project will focus in particular upon galaxies at the epoch of reionisation, such as will be revealed by upcoming JWST observations.
