Description CERN-Openlab Collaboration to develop geometric deep learning solutions for particle identification

PI Contribution I am the main author of a study investigating the application of graph neural network and adaptive multi-objective optimization to the calorimeter system of the current and upgrade conditions of the LHCb detector at CERN. This work is the in collaboration with the CERN Openlab and with a senior academic of LAL, Paris, France, devised to be a 6-months placement starting in December 2019 and ending in June 2020 as a doctoral condition linked to my CDT in Data Intensive Science at the University of Cambridge. I am due to deliver a talk on thsi project at the annual IOP HEPP meeting in Edinburgh in April 2020 and submit an abstract for a talk at the CERN Inter-Machine Learning Workshop in June 2020.
Collaborator Contribution Joao Coelho, a senior academic at Laboratoire de l'accélérateur linéaire, Paris, France is acting as my advisor in this investigation. The CERN Openlab has been instrumental in establishing a link with the industry partners, NVIDIA and E4, to make GPUs available for my machine learning studies.

Results and Impact 2000+ attendees visited the experimental site of the LHCb experiment, CERN. I acted as a guide to give a tour of the research facilities presently shutdown given the upgrade fo the detector in 2021. The audience was varied in nationalities and expertise, and the feedback I received was that a clear understanding of what is High Energy Physics and what role does LHCb play in furthering the limits of our knowledge of the Universe was achieved.
