Description | As part of my PhD I have been a lead author on three published (one submitted to Arxiv) collaborative physics data analysis papers as part of the LHCb collaboration at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN in Geneva. These analyses make use of LHC data to probe the Standard Model (SM) of Particle Physics, thus determining whether the data are consistent with the predictions of the SM or whether they instead indicate the presence of Beyond the Standard Model (BSM) physics. |

PI Contribution | This collaboration is a project based within CERN openlab for developing a deep learning fast simulation of the LHCb ring-imaging Cherenkov detector particle identification response, as part of my PhD CDT. The CERN openlab partner is E4 (NVIDIA), and is currently ongoing. I am working with three academics from Cambridge and CERN, and we are fully responsible for all the intellectual contributions made to the project. |
Collaborator Contribution | The collaboration partners, CERN openlab (NVIDIA), provide access to GPU resources for training the deep learning models, and also give access to support from computer scientists when needed. |
Impact | This collaboration has only recently been initiated, and so work is ongoing. The collaboration is multi-disciplinary, being a computer science, physics and engineering project. |

Results and Impact | I was an underground guide during the CERN open day visits for the general public to see the LHC. I answered many questions from the general public about CERN and the LHC, and guided several groups throughout the weekend. |

Results and Impact | 40 pupils from a local school in London attended UCL during a CDT summer school for a workshop called 'deep learning for paritcle physics'. The students were able to undertake a task related to using deep learning techniques (Keras) for classification of particle physics data. A lot of discussion was sparker afterwards, and there was a competition between the different groups. Our group won. |

Results and Impact | I met with some visiting students to CERN from a Welsh sixth form (Ysgol Preseli). The visit was conducted in Welsh, and the students had many varied and interesting questions. Much discussion and debate occurred. |

Results and Impact | 30 pupils from a local sixth form college in Cambridge attended the Cavendish laboratory for a workshop called a 'physics masterclass'. The students were able to undertake various experiments and various interesting tasks. A lot of discussion was sparker afterwards, and the school reported an increased interest in students choosing to study physics at university. |
