Coherent scattering cooling in levitated cavity optomechanics
Lead Research Organisation:

Department Name: Physics and Astronomy
Abstract
By levitating nanoparticles in a cavity that is populated by the coherent scattering of the optical tweezer trap light into the cavity we can cool the motion of the particle. This has been demonstrated in 1D down to the ground state energy. This project is on developing theoretical models and running simulations in order to further the progress and help achieve 2D and possibly 3D cooling regimes.
