Where do peacekeepers go? Unpacking the determinants of UNSC-authorized peace operation deployments

Abstract
In view of this research puzzle, the present project wants to shed more light on the following question: when an armed conflict erupts, who is going to do the peacekeeping? Will states decide to contribute personnel only to UN missions, only to non-UN missions or to both? Is this decision influenced by the type of conflict and, thus, the type of tasks required to manage the conflict (easy vs. hard cases)? Are UN and non-UN missions performing the same tasks when they are deployed to the same conflict (duplication, inefficient competition)? Or do UN and regional organizations coordinate their approaches when peacekeeping is desirable in responding to an armed conflict (division of labour)? And if this is so, are non-UN missions sometimes preferred to UN peacekeeping missions in managing conflict because they are more effective?
