Abstract
I would like to develop a research agenda whose main focus is the link between innovation and growth, and in particular, how government-led innovation affects the rates of innovation of private sector firms. I am interested in the public good nature of innovation and how businesses react to increased government spending in military, academic, spatial and environmental research.
By using patent data, a credible source of identification and theoretical insights from the recent literature on the propagation of shocks through input-output linkages, I believe that this paper can contribute to our understanding of the mechanisms through which knowledge flows in the economy
