Abstract
The key objective of project is to develop electrochemically active molecules for use in functional electronic textiles (related to EPRSC Grant EP/S005307/1) and sensors. The approach will begin with the preparation of systems that are known to give useful responses. Once these have been prepared and tested, a series of related molecules will be prepared in the laboratory with the aim of achieving tailored responses for an array of applications. Our aim is to cover transmission from visible to UV and sensors with a wide redox potential range. From a synthetic chemistry perspective, James will seek to use 'reagentless' methods, wherever possible, with an emphasis on photochemical, thermochemical and electrochemical reactions in flow (related to EPRSC Grant EP/P013341/1). This is in line with a central theme in the Dial-a-Molecule road map.
