China's vision of an Asian "Community of Common Destiny" - A role theoretical analysis of the effects of China's ideational approach to regional secur

Abstract

In my BA and MA level studies, both taking place in times of continuing global power shifts, I have specialized in research on the diverse effects of restructuring processes of regional and global (security) order(s). Currently, I am especially interested in theoretical conceptualizations as well as empirical evaluations of the impact of ideas and identities on foreign policy behavior in East Asian countries, especially in the People's Republic of China (PRC). Particularly interesting for me is the empirical question of how ideationally induced foreign policy making in the two currently most important great powers in the world, the US and the PRC, is influenced by the dynamics of global power shifts, regional multipolarization, and the resulting change of national identities and mutual perceptions, as well as how these processes interact transnationally with the positioning of lesser powers such as the ASEAN member states and regional institutional rear-rangements.
