New techniques for high orders in scattering amplitudes

Abstract

a) QCD amplitudes. The PhD would consist of continuing work two-loop level gluon scattering amplitudes extending the techniques used for the particular amplitude where all particles have identical helicity to the general cases. Our goal would be to complete the all the five and six-point amplitudes. These would be the key computations in determining the standard model predictions for processes which produce three/four
particles in the LHC collisions. Our philosophy is to compute
amplitudes in closed mathematical analytic forms rather them numerically.
Consequently the project student would be both developing the mathematical techniques and then implementing these using symbolical programming languages such as Mathematica

b) Supersymmetric amplitudes. Particularly $N=4$ super Yang-Mills and $N=8$ supergravity. These highly symmetric theories have amplitudes where the underlying structures and symmetries can more easily discerned.
