Investigating motor function across different age groups using non-invasive brain stimulation

Lead Research Organisation: University of Birmingham
Department Name: Sport, Exercise & Rehabilitation Science

Abstract

Aims and objectives - The aim of the proposed project outlined here, is to thoroughly investigate how TDCS can improve motor control of the upper limbs in older people. Specifically, we aim to:
1. Test the beneficial effect of TDCS on motor control of the upper limb, bimanual coordination and measures of everyday upper limb/hand function in older people.
2. Determine whether these motor effects are produced with concomitant improvements in proprioception.
3. Provide a comparison of the effects of TDCS between young, middle aged and healthy older participants.
