Magnetar Driven Emission in Short Gamma-Ray Bursts
Lead Research Organisation:
University of Leicester
Department Name: Physics and Astronomy
Abstract
This project will involve the development of theoretical models for the extended emission of SGRBs that use the spin-down of magnetars as the energy source. The project will involve the development of analytical and hydrodynamical models of the spin-down of magnetars shortly after a merger of two neutron stars. These models will be used to generate theoretical high-energy light curves, which can be fit to observational data from observatories such as NASA's Swift Gamma-ray Observatory.
