Frontline practitioners' enactment of the Rights of Children and Young Persons (Wales) Measure (2011)

Lead Research Organisation: CARDIFF UNIVERSITY
Department Name: Sch of Social Sciences

Abstract

The Rights of Children and Young Persons (Wales) Measure (2011) is the first legislative measure in response to realising the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (the CRC) within the UK. However, while the rhetoric of rights (especially children's rights) is alluring, without implementation this is merely symbolic and emblematic. This study aims to assess professionals' awareness, in turn, their capacity and ability to realise children's exercising of their rights in practice. This project will address this by examining education and social work practitioners' understanding and enactment of this key piece of legislation.
