Advanced optics concepts for High Luminosity LHC

Lead Research Organisation: University of Liverpool
Department Name: Physics

Abstract

The QUASAR Group at the University of Liverpool is a key partner in the HLLHC project
and is currently making contributions to the beam dynamics and beam diagnostics work
packages. The High Luminosity LHC project relies on detailed models of the optical
condition and running scenarios to provide reliable estimates of the collider's performance
reach. The parameter space is very large, constrained by multiple optimization objectives and
complex machine constraints. The work is focused on the computation of optics for HLLHC.
The project will cover exploration of new parameter space, optimization of nominal running
scenarios, reduction of optics transition time, and improvement of tools for automatic optics
generation; the main goal being to design an alternative optics lattice fitting the need of the
HLLHC machine.
