Geometric group theory

Lead Research Organisation: University of Cambridge
Department Name: Pure Maths and Mathematical Statistics

Abstract

Geometric group theory is the study of infinite discrete groups via their actions on metric spaces. It has strong links to various other areas of pure mathematics, especially low-dimensional topology. Mr Ashcroft will conduct research on open questions in geometric group theory. They may relate to the interesting new models of random groups he introduced in his bachelor's thesis.
