Mechanism of action and therapeutic potential of enzymes involved in rare glycogen storage diseases

Lead Research Organisation: University of Leeds
Department Name: Sch of Molecular & Cellular Biology

Abstract

We are studying enzymes involved in rare glycogen storage diseases (GSDs) in order to understand the mechanism of glycogen metabolism and investigate the therapeutic potential of these enzymes. We will use a combination of structural biology (cryo-EM and X-ray crystallography), enzymology, biophysical techniques and cellular assays to gain a better understanding of enzyme function and inhibition. This studentship will provide key understanding at the molecular level to support drug discovery efforts for rare GSDs.
