Molecular probes to assess reactive oxygen species

Lead Research Organisation: University of Glasgow
Department Name: School of Chemistry

Abstract

The key aim is to provide novel chemical tools for the elucidation of the role of reactive oxygen species in cardiovascular disease.

The objectives include (1) designing and synthesising better sensors for superoxide with improved photochemical properties (2) incorporating chemical targeting groups to localize sensors to different locations around the plasma membrane (3) full chemical validation of photochemical and sensing properties (4) visualization of the active sensors in cells and tissues.

The research falls within the Chemical Biology and Biological Chemistry research area and is important to Technology Touching Life.
