Activating Methane and other Alkanes by transition metal catalysts

Lead Research Organisation: University of Nottingham
Department Name: Sch of Chemistry

Abstract

The aim of this project is based around using photochemistry (ultimately solar energy) to activated methane and other alkanes in useful chemicals. 5-10% of oil is used for chemicals but this 5% represents 50% revenue derived from oil. Thus this project is based around deriving value from CH4 and other gases to feed into the circular economy of the energy supply chain.
