Optimising Inefficiencies in Blockchain

Lead Research Organisation: Lancaster University
Department Name: Computing & Communications

Abstract

The main objectives of this research project would be to analyse the current blockchain implementations and explore the feasibility of solutions to the problems of storage, efficiency, and sustainability. More specifically this research project would explore:
1. The feasibility of distributing the ledger in such a way that users only have a portion of the chain without sacrificing security or accessibility of given information.
2. New and cutting edge ideas which aim to reduce the large amount of wastage currently produced by the "proof-of-work" system.
3. Systems cryptocurrencies could adopt to increase longevity and scalability for financial independence and blockchain growth in the long-term.
