Abstract
The research theme of ultra-high performance Aluminium alloys has a fundamental role nowadays. This topic is of extremely relevance today particularly in automotive since the increasing demand for advanced materials with high strength and low weight. Aluminium alloys have been proved to be suitable for the applications in such circumstances, therefore these are the most commonly used of the casting alloys especially in the automotive and aerospace industries. They have overtaken other foundry alloys as a result of their various beneficial attributes. These include their ability to give a high strength to weigh ratio, better castability, better surface finish, better wear resistance, better corrosion resistance and better welding characteristics than their competitors.
