Aspects of the double copy

Abstract
Three out of the four fundamental forces in nature are described by so-called "(non-abelian) gauge theories". Gravity, on the other hand, is described by General Relativity, or possible generalisations of this theory. Recently, a remarkable correspondence (the "double copy") has been discovered between gauge theories and gravity, that suggests their mathematical structure is a lot more similar than previously thought. This project will test and extend the remit of the double copy, by trying to generalise it to different types of solution in gauge and gravity theories. The student may also examine applications of the double copy needed for astrophysics and / or cosmology, some of which may have practical applications.
