Impact of sand biofilter reactor process conditions on the stereochemistry, biological potency and treatment of micropollutants, pharmaceuticals and p

Abstract

This Ph.D seeks to undertake the first a priori engineering optimisation of sand biofilters for the enhanced removal for regulated micropollutants, pharmaceuticals and personal care products (MPPCP) in drinking water biofilters using the natural emergence of treatment acclimation in biological processes. The hypothesis is that classes of micropollutants (e.g. therapeutic ones) will prime the facultative MPPCP degrading organisms which are present in biofilms located in drinking water sand biofilters for the removal of other micropollutants (i.e. regulated ones, pesticides etc). Thesis in style of thesis by publication is expected.
