Semiclassical aspects of soliton dynamics

Lead Research Organisation: Heriot-Watt University
Department Name: S of Mathematical and Computer Sciences

Abstract

The goal of this project is to study aspects of topological soliton models like the Skyrme model for nuclear physics or the magnetic skyrmion model in condensed matter physics, which involve both classical, and quantum aspects of soliton theory. Specific examples include the role of spin-orbit coupling in soliton dynamics, but also the use of dualities to map semiclassical regimes to strongly coupled quantum regimes.
