Abstract

Aimeric Malter's PhD project is firmly in the intersection of two EPSRC areas, Algebra and Geometry as well as Mathematical Physics. He is working on a research project in the field called mirror symmetry, an intradisciplinary mathematics field linking various disciplines of geometry through a duality from string theory. This places his work directly in a strategic priority for the EPSRC.

His particular research project is linked to the proposal in Tyler Kelly's funded EPSRC project "Mirror Constructions: Develop, Unify, Apply" EP/S03062X/1. Malter works in the unify framework of the proposal, as it stands. He aims in this work to unify two constructions of a mirror-the fairly exotic Libgober-Teitelbaum construction of the mirror to the complete intersection of two cubics with the more traditional Batyrev-Borisov construction. He will do this through using techniques involving derived categories, Landau-Ginzburg models and toric variational geometric invariant theory.
