Chimeric small molecule tools to investigate glucose metabolism

Lead Research Organisation: Newcastle University
Department Name: Sch of Natural Sciences & Env Sciences

Abstract

Chemical probes using with chimeric molecules, such as ProtaCs, are rapidly becoming established as valuable chemical biological experimental or exploratory tools for understanding disease processes. Glucokinase (GK) is a critical glucose sensor in the liver and the pancreas for maintaining blood glucose homeostasis and is of great interest in metabolic diseases, such as diabetes. We will develop chemical probes for glucokinase based on chimeras of glucokinase activators and these will be used to study metabolic disease pathways in the liver.
