Abstract
The project will involve collaboration with Safer Leeds and the N8 Police Research Partnership (PRP). The N8-PRP is a £6million HEFCE funded police-research partnership platform established to enable and foster research collaborations that will help address the problems of policing in the 21st century. Key project data will be provided by Safer Leeds and one or more existing N8 police partners utilising data sharing agreements and protocols established as part of the PRP. Data sharing agreements with Safer Leeds have already been established and initial project data transferred. There is significant potential for impact. Establishing viable methods to better harness the wealth of information stored in unstructured crime reports is a key problem faced by police and their crime prevention partners worldwide. The methods developed as part of the project have the potential to add significant analytical ability to Safer Leeds and other police project partners. More broadly, insights gained through the project have the potential to be relevant to all police and crime prevention partners.
