Precision measurements of light nuclei at the Birmingham MC40 cyclotron

Lead Research Organisation: University of Birmingham
Department Name: School of Physics and Astronomy

Abstract

I wish to use the MC40 cyclotron to investigate the properties of light nuclei. In particular, I aim to research nuclear cluster states where the nuclei are at energies where sub-clusters of protons and neutrons form. Through this, I want to gain insights into underlying nucleon configurations, and through this advance the knowledge of these exotic states.

I feel I am extremely suitable to research such a subject due to my avid interest in nuclear physics. Throughout my degree, I have always opted to take modules in nuclear physics and have achieved a first class mark in all these modules. One of these modules was a Nuclear Physics module, and I believe that many of the skills I learned in this module will be transferable. Outside of my studies, I have read about current developments in nuclear physics in popular scientific literature.
