Photodynamics of Artificial Porphyrins and Metal Oxides Thin Films

Lead Research Organisation: University of Sheffield
Department Name: Chemistry

Abstract

The first objective is to investigate series of artificial porphyrins to understand the relation between their electronic structure and dynamics, in the hope of fine-tuning them for specific applications. the second objective is to investigate the electron dynamics in photo-active thin-film metal oxides to understand the underlying mechanisms behind their photo-catalytic antibacterial properties. The hope is again to fine tune these novel material to enhance their photo-catalitic efficiencies.
Both objectives make use of state of the art laser spectroscopies. The student will then gain technical experience in preparing and handling both, molecular and solid state samples and gain expertise in the use of ultrafast optics, data processing and interpretation.
