Experimental and theoretical investigations of the maximum heat transfer rate in liquid-vapour evaporative cooling syste

Lead Research Organisation: Loughborough University
Department Name: Wolfson Sch of Mech, Elec & Manufac Eng

Abstract

This PhD project aims to explore the maximum heat transfer rate in the liquid-vapour evaporative cooling technologies which would enable the development of energy systems with higher energy and power densities.
The research will include:
Systematic review of the existing state-of-art liquid-vapour evaporative cooling technologies and relevant physical models;
Theoretical analysis of the thermal resistances and hydrodynamic instabilities in typical liquid-vapour evaporative cooling systems;
Experimental quantifications of the heat transfer rates and hydrodynamic instabilities during the liquid-vapour evaporation process.
