Abstract
In this project the student will work on the Fermilab muon g-2 experiment. The student will be responsible for maintaining the data acquisition system used by the experiment's straw tracking detectors. The student will improve the performance of the straw tracking detectors both in terms of the fraction of charged particle trajectories that are successfully reconstructed and in reducing the uncertainty of the determined trajectories. This improved tracking will be used to reduce the systematic uncertainties in the determination of (g-2) particularly those associated with the vertical and radial beam motion. The student will update the limit on the muon's electric dipole moment (or measure it) with a sensitivity that is expected to surpass that from previous measurements by at least a factor of 10 and likely a factor of 100.
