Abstract
This is a PhD research project in developing novel imaging technique based on Hong-Ou-Mandel interferometry, exploiting both non-classical sources of light as well as the unique abilities of new-generation single photon counting cameras. The project will be accompanying, and supporting related experimental efforts. In particular, this PhD project will aim to translate information theoretic concepts into blueprints for cutting-edge quantum optics experiments. This will involve information theoretical approaches building on the tools of parameter estimation (e.g. the Cramér-Rao bound and Fisher information) to formulate new approaches and protocols for quantum imaging at the level of single photons, including approaches to depth and time-of-flight imaging. Aiming to extract the theoretically maximal amount of information available per interaction of each photon with "the sample", this PhD project could result in practical proposals for novel quantum sensing techniques with potential use in bio-imaging and materials research.
