Pore-scale analysis of complex displacement patterns in two-phase immiscible ow in porous media

Lead Research Organisation: Imperial College London
Department Name: Earth Science and Engineering

Abstract

This project is focused on furthering our understanding of the pore scale fluid dynamics underpinning multiphase fluid flow in the subsurface. The recent availability of laboratory and synchrotron micro X-ray CT has allowed for unprecedented detail in imaging and modeling fluid flow through porous rocks at the scale of individual pores (microns to millimetres). This is leading a revolution in our understanding of important fluid-rock processes with wide ranging applications including petroleum production, and CO2 storage underground.
