Lead Research Organisation: Loughborough University
Department Name: Mathematics Education Centre

Abstract

This project will evaluate a curriculum designed to give Key Stage 3 pupils an introduction to key concepts and methods in data science, with the aim of increasing motivation and ambition to engage with further study and careers in Computing and STEM. Working directly with DJRFF Foundation staff, along with educational consultants and industry experts, the project will develop new educational resources and activities based around current information and research, and using survey, progress, and interview data, evaluate the effectiveness of the intervention. The research is intended to contribute to our understanding of engagement and ambition in Computing and STEM among a diverse pupil population, and contribute to the further development of the data science curriculum
