Development of XRF-CT/Fluorescence Microscopy 3D correlative imaging to study zeolite structure

Abstract

Correlative XRF-CT/ Fluorescence Microscopy 3D imaging is a new technique which has come from
an existing JM sponsored iCASE PhD project ( )and the proposed project will
build on this previous success and see it more widely applied in JM. Industrial application areas will
be manufacturing and R&D. This project will improve JM's knowledge of key
materials used in environmental and chemical catalysis and help provide insights and optimise R&D
approaches. The results will be relevant to customer projects and also R&D activities and assist with
the development of new products.
The project will use a range of commercially relevant materials to develop this correlative approach to
enhance imaging capabilities in JM. The core of the project will consist technique development to
enable data collection and relevant measurements to be made. There will also be work needed on
sample environments and data analysis. The student will gain a good understanding of the application
of advanced laser techniques to study industrially relevant materials and also data analysis skills
along with synthesis of zeolite based materials.
