The Application Driven Synthesis and Modification of Chemically Recyclable Polyesters
Lead Research Organisation:
CARDIFF UNIVERSITY
Department Name: Chemistry
Abstract
The ring-opening co-polymerisation of epoxides and anhydrides has been shown to yield an effectively limitless number of chemically distinct polymers, each with unique chemical and physical properties. This has generated a "dial a property" level of flexibility in polymers, that are all biodegradable or chemically recyclable by de-polymerisation. This project will use this class of polymers to produce antimicrobial materials, and will supply data relating to their chemical, biological, and mechanical properties.
