Abstract
This project seeks to understand the effects of mental health issues on People with Lived Experience of Mental Illness (PLEX) in the context of work and the effectiveness of UK anti-discrimination legislation in preventing discrimination so that this group can secure and remain in employment. The Equality Act 2010 is the primary UK legislation offering protection for the disabled at work. Work related stress is covered by the Health and Safety at Work Act, but it is questionable if individuals who suffer mental health issues which arise from employer failures to protect them from the effects of work related stress are sufficiently well protected.
