Adaptive Multiband Metamaterials for Structural, Air Vehicle, Antennas
Lead Research Organisation:
University of Birmingham
Department Name: Electronic, Electrical and Computer Eng
Abstract
The Department of Electronic, Electrical and Systems Engineering is seeking a high calibre candidate for a fully funded EPSRC ICASE PhD studentship in microwave antennas and metamaterials.
The PhD is sponsored by BAE Systems and will be supervised jointly by Dr A. Feresidis in the Department of Electronic, Electrical and Systems Engineering. The overall aim of this cutting edge project is to lay the fundamental scientific foundations for new, reconfigurable, air vehicle communications antennas and to develop a representative, multi-functional, prototype. This will require undertaking theoretical and applied research, involving experimental studies, simulation and modelling. The research aims to determine suitable antenna designs and material technologies for a range of operating bands within the RF and microwave spectrum, based on cost effective fabrication processes, which will lead to prototype demonstrators and testing in representative communication systems.
