The dynamic properties of bright points in the solar atmosphere

Lead Research Organisation: Aberystwyth University
Department Name: Inst of Mathematical and Physical Sci

Abstract

The thesis will present results concerning the bright points in the different layers of the solar atmosphere. Bright points in the lower solar atmosphere (photosphere and chromosphera) will be investigated using high-resolution ground-based observations from SST, GREGOR and DKIST solar telescopes. Automated detection numerical methods will be developed to identify, tracked and investigate the dynamic properties of the bright points. The results will be compared to numerical simulations generated with the BIfROST and/or MURaM radiative magneto-hydrodynamic codes. Comparisons will be also made between ground-based observations and satellite-borne observations obtained with the Solar Dynamic Observatory and IRIS to find coronal and transition region signatures of the brightenings detected in the lower atmosphere. The main objectives of the thesis are to investigate the dynamical properties of bright points and try to answer question of how important these structures are for chromospheric, transition region and coronal heating problem.
