High-Speed X-ray Imaging for Manufacturing: Reconstruction and Data Optimisation

Abstract
X-ray computed tomography is able to achieve reasonable dimensional results following a relatively standardised procedure, including use of a simple reconstruction process. When you employ less data, the measurement become worse but there has been no previous quantification. There are other more advanced reconstruction processes now available that can use less data in a more efficient way. If this can maintain the measurement uncertainty of previous processes then it could speed up industrial scanning by up to a factor of 5. The potential for high-throughput and data analysis fits with the Manufacturing the Future theme from EPSRC.
