Abstract

Through this project the industrial priorities for mooring and biofouling will be determined. The effects on the structural reliability and on interactions with the local environment will be covered. This will be used to identify opportunities for passive monitoring solutions. Finally a passive monitoring solution will be developed. The condition of mooring lines is of critical importance to the structural integrity of any floating structure. For floating wind in particular this is of prominent importance due to the number of platforms required for a farm. With several platform designs using a minimum of 3 mooring lines there will be a real need to understand and maintain the condition of these cables. Up to this point mooring lines are monitored in-situ using strain gauges and monitoring the tension in the lines. This has proven good at detecting line failures but has not been used to represent more gradual changes.
